In 2004–05 the Australian Industrial Relations Commission celebrated its centenary as Australia’s national industrial tribunal. Several events were held to mark the occasion—a national conference, a book on the tribunal’s history, a travelling exhibition and a photographic project. The last of these is the subject of this exhibition.

The project involved taking photographs at AIRC premises around Australia over the course of a single day. The 100–year anniversary of the enactment of the Commonwealth Conciliation and Arbitration Act 1904—Wednesday, 15 December 2004—was chosen as the day to highlight.
